I am a school nurse who came upon this site for an online class.
When I read your account, I felt extremely sorry for both you and your student.
You are definitely a very caring teacher!
It is unfortunate that there wasn’t a nurse available in the district who could have developed a plan to help Doug get through the school day, and make it much
easier for everyone involved, including Doug! He could possibly had visited the
Health Office each day at a specific time to take care of his needs before it became overwhelming! Extra colostomy supplies could have been kept there.
