Here is a sample list of stressors commonly experienced by children and youth:

- Substance abuse (parent and/or sibling)
- Illness(of parent, sibling, child)
- Parent out of work
- Loss of pet
- New school
- Failure in school
- Physical appearance problems (complexion, clothes, height, weight, sexual development, etc.)
- Poverty
- Victimization by peers
- Lack of proper nutrition
- Holidays
- Loss of friends (moved away)
- Test anxiety
- New sibling (natural or step-sibling)
- New parents
- Sports-related pressure
- New job (of parent)
- Parent away from home often
- Puberty
- Injury to self or significant other
- Placement in special education
- Dating
- Learning to drive
- Peer pressure (drugs, sex, tobacco, alcohol, cheating, stealing, skipping classes or school, etc.)
