List 1: Communication Impairments

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder:

1. Repeat what they hear, especially videos. 
2. Understand more than they can express.
3. Play elaborate make-believe games with their peers
4. Ask inappropriate questions.
5. Do not speak.
6. Have reciprocal conversations.
7. Can be taught to ask, “How are you?”
8. Say “You want a cookie” when they want a cookie.
