2 – 7 years | Preoperational | Language and make-believe play develop – logic usually not evident. Stores mental images of past experiences. Can mentally “picture” wishes. Rapidly increasing vocabulary and language. Can’t distinguish between likenesses and differences unless visually apparent. Sees from own point of view, concentrates on only one attribute, unable to follow transformations, unable to form reversals. |
7 – 11 years | Concrete Operational | Reasoning becomes logical. Organizational skills develop. Understand conservation. |
