The Coalition of Essential Schools identified 10 core principles that share much in common with principles typically associated with classrooms in which differentiation is implemented.
In Sizer’s view, while many teachers in a traditional model have nearly perfected their delivery of content and information through repetition, their parade through the content can represent a mismatch of instruction for students who may need something a little different. Similar to Sizer’s vision for creating the schools that students need, differentiated classrooms are more fluid than the traditional classrooms that motivated Sizer to support educational reform.
