Some examples of how Curriculum Mapping is being used:
• Utah
The Utah Education Network is a consortium of public education partners, including the Utah System of Higher Education and its ten universities and colleges and Utah eLearning Connection, the Utah State Office of Education, local school districts and the Utah Electronic High School and the state’s Library system.
• Texas Department of Education
Understanding by Design represents a way of thinking about the design of curriculum, instruction, and assessment and pulls together many ideas and processes that have been tested through both research and classroom use. Used independently, these ideas and processes are valuable. Used within the conceptual framework of Understanding by Design, these ideas and processes can result in a way of thinking about curriculum, instruction, and assessment that can give rise to powerful learning experiences that result in deeper understandings of facts, concepts, generalizations, principles, and other ideas contained in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Social Studies.
• Minneapolis School District (Minnesota)
Curriculum mapping has been a part of school and teacher activities in Minneapolis for a number of years. It is a concrete way to plan, collaborate and communicate core teaching and learning plans. It also strengthens the links between assessment and instruction. This online environment streamlines the mapping process by adding the portability and functionality of the web. Maps can be readily created, edited, and shared online.
• Knoxville School District, Illinois (CUSD #202)
In the fall of 2006, the Knoxville CUSD #202 and Faculty began a curriculum update and renewal process. The system that was chosen to assist faculty with this large project was Curriculum Mapper. Curriculum Mapper is based on the common-sense ideas championed by Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs, the recognized pioneer of curriculum mapping. After over ten years, curriculum mapping is now supported by research showing improved student performance.
